Eligibility
Requirements for Registering to Vote in Utah
Under Utah Code, an individual
must meet the following requirements in order to register to vote in
Utah. An applicant must:
An applicant is considered a resident of
Utah if he or she has his principal place of residence within Utah and
intends to continue to reside within Utah indefinitely. An individual who is currently incarcerated
for committing a felony is not eligible to vote. A convicted felon's right to vote
is restored when he or she is sentenced to probation, is granted parole,
or successfully completes the term of incarceration.
Registering to Vote
You may also submit a registration form to change your party affiliation or register with a party. Declaring a party is not required in order to register to vote. However, Utah's election law allows each political party to choose whom it will allow to vote in its primary election. If you do not affiliate with a party, you may be restricted from voting in the primary.
Utah voter registration is available in the following locations:
To print off a Voter
Registration Form click here
By-Mail. You
can submit your voter registration application by-mail. By-mail voter registration forms can
be printed from this website and mailed in to your county clerk. By-mail voter registration forms are
also available in the phone book, and at other discretionary sites,
such as post offices and libraries.
By-mail voter registration forms should be mailed to the county
clerk. They must be postmarked
at least 20 days before an election in order for the applicant to be
eligible to vote in that election.
Driver License and State
Agency Offices. Voter registration forms are available at Utah
Driver License Offices. They
are also available at agencies that offer public assistance and state-funded
assistance to the disabled. These offices include offices of the Division of Workforce
Services; Utah State Department of Health Women, Infant and Children
(WIC) offices; offices of the Division of Services for People with Disabilities;
offices of the Department of Rehabilitation; offices at public colleges
and universities that provide services to the disabled; and armed forces
recruitment offices. These
agency forms must be completed and turned in to the agency office at
least 20 days before an election to vote in that election.
Satellite
Registration Locations. Each county is required
to set up satellite voter registration locations from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
on Friday and Monday, the eighth and eleventh days before a regular
primary or general election. Voter
registration forms will be available there for voters to register to
vote in the upcoming election. Information about satellite locations can be obtained from
your county clerk and will be published in a newspaper before satellite
registration begins. After you submit a voter registration form, your
county clerk will mail you a card indicating the status of your voter
registration. If you are
a qualified voter, you will receive a voter identification card indicating
your voting districts and polling location. If you are not qualified or your information is incomplete,
your county clerk will notify you of such and explain what information
you need to submit in order to be eligible to register.
Voter Registration Deadlines
Any of the previously mentioned
voter registration options are available at any time. However, to vote
in a specific election, mail-in voter registration forms and agency
forms must be postmarked at least 20 days before that election. You may register in person in your
county clerk's office up to 7 days before an election to vote in that
election. Also, if you
register at a satellite location, you will be eligible to vote in the
election immediately after.
